At Dave's Custom Tailoring, we use 100% cotton fabric to make our shirts. It is the ultimate fabric for comfort and dressiness. Cotton is a natural fiber and allows the skin to breathe within the fabric. It does not hold on to perspiration and consequently has little chance of retaining any odor.

The longer the cotton fiber the finer cotton. This is because the longer cotton fibers are not tied with knots to bind them together. The world's finest cottons are Egyptian Cotton and one of its descendants from the West Indies called Sea Island Cotton. They are known for their silky feel, luster and long 1 ¾ inch fibers. They are exceptionally light, airy, and silky.
At Dave's we have a wide selection Egyptian and Sea Island Cottons for you to choose from.

Poplin, Pima and Broadcloth offer the finest and silkiest feel for dress shirts. These fabrics are generally more formal in feel than other weaves due to their fineness and lightness.
Poplin has a fine horizontal ribbed effect on the surface. It is an excellent choice for summer shirts due to its fine, soft, and translucent feel.
Pima is also spun from fine yarns and is known for its particularly smooth feel.
Broadcloth gives a nice silky appearance and rich luster. It looks much like Pima because of their similar weaves, however, Broadcloth is generally made from a coarser yarn. The result is a less formal-looking but still dressy shirt.

Pinpoint Oxford is known for its subtle texture and durability. It has a traditional look made synonymous with well-dressed gentlemen by the English tradition of "polo shirts" and button down collars. It is essentially a Broadcloth made from yarns which are somewhat thicker and therefor has a coarser nap but still has a finer weave and lighter weight than standard oxford fabrics.

Royal oxford materials have a heavier yarn than their pinpoint cousins. They are chunky and durable fabrics. Their bold basket weaves create a rugged texture especially in solid-colors. This weave has its origins in late 19th Century England and is known for its exceptional texture, softness, and luster.

End-on-end fabrics originated in France where they are called fil-à-fil. A subtle texture is created from alternating white and colored yarns into the weave creating a minute check pattern that is imperceptible except from a very close proximity.
Chambray is a lightweight and plainly-woven fabric created by running white threads vertically with colors running horizontally.

Like herringbone fabrics, twill features a weave with diagonal lines. These lines run in one direction and the reflected light from the diagonal rib gives twill a nice texture and enhanced depth of color.
